Great Coaches Make
SEC Tough From Top To Bottom

Welcome to The
Southeastern Conference will have many quality teams and good coaches
for DaONE’s inaugural season. It will have great competition,
and it doesn’t matter what teams. Even teams like Vanderbilt
and South Carolina have a chance, because of their great owners.
If you look at all the teams in this conference, you won’t
see anyone who can’t make a big impact in the SEC.
Here’s
a breakdown of each team:
Arkansas
— Coach Favre's Razorbacks are ready to do something in their
conference. Quarterback Matt Jones is his key guy and will make
the passing game better by himself. At 6-foot-5, 225 pounds, he’s
a big quarterback with good running skills. Cedric Cobbs and the
rest of the backfield is one of the best in the SEC. The Razorbacks
should have a good running game and Coach Favre will use it to set
up the pass. Overall, the “D” can be one of the best
in the SEC if its cuts down on the big play. Arkansas will have
some trouble stopping the run and getting a good pass rush, but
will be able to create a lot of turnovers with a good secondary.
The Razorbacks have some good playmakers on defense. This team is
a sleeper in the SEC, but will most likely finish in the middle
or bottom of the conference.
Auburn
— Coach Kontrol has high expectations and will get a tough
early test against USC. After that, the nonconference schedule should
get easier. Kontrol will start out by running and play some ball-control
with his great backfield. Carnell Williams will be the main guy
in the backfield, with Jason Campbell behind center. Look for him
to run, run and run some more. Coach Kontrol expects to play safe
defense because of the weak secondary. Carlos Rogers will be the
top DB in the secondary. Kontrol also stated that his biggest foe
will Tennessee (Mellarri) although he does hate Miami "with
a passion.” Kontrol would like to send this message out to
his opponents: "I expect to run the ball down some people’s
throats this season and [I] expect a lot of crying." As long
as Auburn runs the ball and keeps those first-down markers moving,
he will be very tough to beat.
Georgia
— Uh, oh, it’s Mad Scientist … da Mad Man, El
Presidente. Coach Mad is taking over a great team, the almighty
Bulldogs of Georgia. He’s got so many weapons, it’ll
make opponents wet their pants. A great pocket passer in David Greene
and a fast athletic quarterback in D.J. Shockley will make him tough.
The backfield is full of big bruisers who will get the tough yards.
Tall receivers and tight end Ben Watson will make defenses triple-team
him. Mad stated that he likes to put in his second team once in
a while to give his starters a breather. But when playing online
there is no formation subs, so we'll see how he gets both his quarterbacks
playing time. He also has a monster defense that has two big tackles
who can plug the hole. All four starting defensive backs return
and the linebackers are as fast as ever. Mad feels that he probably
won’t be up there with the top teams in the conference, despite
all the talent, but he’s looking to have fun and maybe get
some upsets along the way.
Kentucky
— Coach VDub has a defensive lineman playing quarterback in
Jared Lorenzen, a 6-foot-4, 275-pound bruiser who has a nice accurate
pass. VDub will look to pound the ball and hold on to it as long
as he can, but with his new halfback it might take awhile to get
used to it because of the loss to Artose Pinner to the NFL. Lorenzen
has a few weapons who can burn and guys who will make the tough
catch. Defense will be good, a lack of good linebackers will make
it difficult to stop the run. Overall, it may be a long season for
Coach VDub and his Wildcats.
LSU
— Another team with two solid quarterbacks, Matt Mauck and
Marcus Randall, Coach Lickem will look to pass to his solid receiver
Michael Clayton with a pro-style offense with a little option mixed
in. The backfield may have some problems, but with a good O-line,
it should be enough to get some consistency with the offense. The
defense will be good, but might have some problems with a few spots
in the secondary and linebacker. This team will be competitive all
season, but look for the Tigers to finish in the middle of the conference.
Mississippi
State — Might not be a very good year for the Bulldogs
… or will it? Coach TD is warning people not to take the Bulldogs
lightly, saying, "Mississippi State WILL be a force.”
TD plans to blitz a lot on “D” and be less-aggressive
on offense. The backfield should be better and with the speed it
has, but the question is whether quarterback Kevin Fant can bring
anything to the offense. His veteran receivers may help, but consistency
at quarterback is key. There are a lot of holes on defense, but
the secondary may punish teams for underestimating it. Coach TD
is also looking forward to the matchup with rival Ole Miss. Will
Mississippi State have an impact in the conference? We'll have to
wait and see. "I KNOW I'll be very competitive in the SEC,
and I plan to make a run for the title,” Coach TD said.
Ole
Miss — Coach Smitt22 is ready to play with Ole
Miss and Heisman candidate Eli Manning at quarterback. The passing
game looks good, with Manning and a solid receiving corps. But a
big question will be the running game. Coach Smith will try to mix
it up, control the clock and keep the defense on their toes. On
defense, the secondary is solid and will cause trouble for opposing
passing attacks. If the Rebels can stop the run, they’ll have
a good defense. With Manning, this can be one of the best offenses
in the conference, but Ole Miss needs to run the ball with consistency.
South
Carolina — Coach Coach? No, its just Coach. His
Gamecocks could do something in the SEC. He doesn’t have the
greatest talent around him, but as a team and with Coach calling
the plays, he should make an impact. Coach will try mixing it up
and changing his offensive game according to the opponent’s
defense, but will most likely play conservative most of the time.
Big Dondrial Pinkins at quarterback can be a big star and a playmaker.
The defense should be solid. The Gamecocks have their game cocked
and loaded, so watch out. Coach isn’t going to say anything
when he’s blowing you out 59-0, but he'll continue to play
the game and let his skills do the talking.
Tennessee
— Coach Melarri — The Game, as he would like to be called
— is obviously the favorite in the SEC. He will have a blanced
offense, using quarterback Casey Clausen and halfback Cedric Houston
effectively. The Volunteers will be very tough to stop on defense
and look for them to make a run for the national title. The defense
should be very solid all-around, especially in the secondary. He
also can’t wait to play his rival Kontrol when the Vols visit
Auburn.
Vanderbilt
— The big question with Vanderbilt and Coach MC is how a well
and very skilled player can do with a horrible no-skill team like
Vanderbilt. The Commodores are a sleeper in the SEC and could finish
in the middle of the conference. Coach MC will try to run a lot
with quarterback Jay Cutler and halfback Kwane Doster. The big question
will be if the defense stop anything. Vanderbilt has an athletic
defense and might do something if the right play is called. That’s
obviously in Coach MC's hands and he should do very well there.
With a tough conference, the Commodores will have a lot of trouble
if they don’t execute. "Don't count out Vandy quite yet,”
Coach MC said. “You never know what can happen.”
This
conference will be very competetive and more than a few teams will
make it to the 64-team playoffs. SEC coaches think South Carolina
(Coach) and Tennessee (Melarri) are the favorites. Will someone
step up and show the naysayers something? Will some teams fall to
the pressure? Only time will tell. Once the season starts, we’ll
learn who’s for real and who’s just a poser.

4. Ole Miss
